How do you type the score, clock and inning for a fan cam?
Type the score as two whole numbers joined by a plain hyphen (2-1), the clock as minutes, a colon and two-digit seconds (73:45), and, for baseball, Top or Bottom plus an inning from 1 to 15 (Top 7th). FanCam AI checks these three fields when you tap Generate. If one does not fit, it shows a short message instead of starting the video, so no credits are used on a typo.
This post covers only the exact formats: what the app accepts, how each entry appears on the scoreboard, and how to fix one it refuses. For suggested setups per sport, use the scoreboard settings table in the step-by-step guide or the example settings on the basketball and baseball pages.
The score: X-Y
The score field is labelled "Score (Home-Away)". The home team's number comes first.
- Digits on both sides, one hyphen between them. 2-1, 0-0, 24-17 and three-digit basketball scores such as 112-108 all work.
- Spaces at the start or end are ignored, spaces around the hyphen are not. Write 3-1, not the same numbers with a space on either side of the hyphen.
- Use the plain hyphen from the keyboard. A colon, a slash or a longer dash copied from somewhere else is refused.
- No minus signs, no third number, no words. Negative scores, a third number and wording like "two to one" do not pass.
- Leading zeros are accepted but dropped on the board: 02-01 appears as 2-1.
The clock: MM:SS (soccer, basketball, American football)
The field is labelled "Match Clock (MM:SS)" for soccer and "Game Clock (MM:SS)" for basketball and American football.
- Minutes (1 to 3 digits), a colon, then seconds from 00 to 59. 73:45, 7:05, a stoppage-time 92:10, an extra-time 105:00 and 02:18 all work.
- Refused: a minute on its own (73), seconds of 60 or more (73:60), a full stop instead of the colon (73.45) and a minute mark (73').
- Single-digit minutes get a leading zero on the board: 7:05 appears as 07:05.
The clock is not frozen. The overlay advances it once per second during the 10-second clip:
- Soccer counts up: 73:45 runs to 73:54.
- Basketball and American football count down: 02:18 runs to 02:09. A clock that reaches 00:00 stays there.
- The soccer half comes from the clock you type: 45:00 or later shows 2ND HALF, anything earlier shows 1ST HALF, and the label stays the same for the whole clip.
- Basketball and American football always show the 4TH period. There is no period setting.
The inning (baseball)
Baseball has no clock. The field is labelled "Inning" and takes the half of the inning first, then its number:
- Half: Top or T, Bottom, Bot or B.
- Number: 1 to 15, with or without an ending (7, 7th).
- Separators: a space, a hyphen or a full stop. The words "of", "the" and "inning" are ignored.
The board shows it in capitals with the ending added, and it stays the same for the whole clip: you get TOP 7TH for Top 7th and BOT 9TH for bottom of the 9th inning.
An example: Bottom 9th, 4-5
The AI-generated clip at the top of this page shows a fictional fan, not a real person, in a baseball crowd with a foam hand. The broadcast scoreboard was drawn with these entries: home Green Team, away Navy Team, score 4-5, inning Bottom 9th, LIVE on.
Three things to notice:
- Bottom 9th became BOT 9TH, and it does not change during the clip.
- The score is typed home first, but this board lists the away team on top, like a TV baseball graphic, because the away side bats first. So with 4-5 typed, the top row reads NT 5 and the row below GT 4. Check the preview if the order matters for your joke.
- The 3-2 count and 1 OUT were not typed. They are fixed parts of the baseball board (see below).
Ten entries checked against the app's rules
Each row was run through the app's validation logic (mirrored in the website's scoreboard code). Only the "Accepted" ones get past Generate.
| You type | Field | Accepted? | On the board |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-1 | Score | Yes | 2-1 |
| 02-01 | Score | Yes | 2-1 |
| 7:05 | Soccer clock | Yes | 07:05, then counts up |
| 105:00 | Soccer clock | Yes | 105:00, 2ND HALF |
| 73:60 | Soccer clock | No | Seconds stop at 59 |
| 73.45 | Soccer clock | No | Needs a colon |
| Bot 9 | Inning | Yes | BOT 9TH |
| B-11 | Inning | Yes | BOT 11TH |
| T7 | Inning | No | Needs a space or hyphen: T 7 |
| Top 16th | Inning | No | Innings stop at 15 |
When the app refuses an entry
The app names the field that needs fixing:
- "Match score must be in 'X-Y' format (e.g. 2-1)."
- "Match clock must be in 'MM:SS' format (e.g. 73:45)." (soccer) or "Game clock must be in 'MM:SS' format (e.g. 02:18)." (basketball and American football)
- "Inning must be like 'Top 7th' or 'Bottom 9th'."
Watch the Step 5 scoreboard preview while you type. When the clock or inning is not valid, the preview shows the sport's default (73:45 for soccer, 02:18 for basketball, 05:42 for American football, TOP 7TH for baseball) instead of your text, so if the preview ignores what you typed, the entry needs fixing. The preview is less strict about the score: with spaces around the hyphen it may already look right, so trust the Generate message.
Three quick fixes cover most refusals:
- Retype the score with the keyboard's own hyphen and no spaces.
- Add the missing colon or two-digit seconds to the clock (73 becomes 73:00).
- Put Top or Bottom first in the inning and keep the number between 1 and 15.
What you cannot set
Some details on the board are fixed decoration, not settings, depending on the sport and scoreboard style: the baseball count and outs (3-2, 1 OUT), basketball's SHOT 18 and BONUS, American football's 3RD & 7 and ON 32, and the soccer ticker's POS 55%. Team names are a separate field with their own shortening rules: names of up to 4 characters stay in full (in capitals) and Green Team became GT above, so type your own code of up to 4 letters if you want exact lettering.
FanCam AI is free to download; each video uses purchased credits (10 credits for 480p, 20 for HD 720p). The scoreboard check costs nothing, so get the three fields right before you tap Generate. For the rest of the process, from the photo to saving the clip, follow the step-by-step fan cam guide.
